PES | Power & Energy Society

The Power & Energy Society (PES) is the oldest society within IEEE focused on scientific and technological knowledge about Electrical Engineering, Energy, and Sustainability. In Coimbra, the PES is the newest chapter of the SB, officially established in August 2021. It started with only three members at the end of 2020, but it has been growing exponentially since then. Over the past year, it has organized more than 10 events, including workshops, talks, training sessions, and discussion panels.

Among these events, the PES WIEEEK stands out, a congress focused on discussing topics related to sustainability, energy, and power. The first edition was entirely online and had more than 100 participants, 7 speakers, and 3 sponsors. The second edition of the event featured the participation of over 20 guests, including experts in the field, professors, and companies. They discussed the theme of Sustainability in online lectures over four days.

Regarding its activities, in response to the increase in the number of members, three teams were created to enhance the chapter’s actions. The Communication Team is responsible for updating PES’s social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn) with periodic posts about Energy and Sustainability. The Projects Team produces the newsletter (PESLetter) and the podcast (PESCast) for PES. The Events Team is responsible for organizing events, contacting speakers, and seeking financial support for PES events.

Events

This chapter is dedicated to organizing impactful events centered around its core areas of energy, power systems, and sustainability. These initiatives aim to foster knowledge sharing, collaboration, and innovation within the academic and professional community.
